Special Update – SPU v. WA Attorney General

Upcoming event: Oral arguments in SPU’s lawsuit against the WA Attorney General will be presented this Thursday, November 16, at 10:00am at the William K. Nakamura Courthouse (on the SE 7th floor, Courtroom 2).

This lawsuit was initiated by SPU in response to the Attorney General’s inquiry about SPU’s hiring practices as they relate to the Washington Law Against Discrimination. (This is the same lawsuit that was dismissed by the district court; after the dismissal, SPU appealed to the Ninth Circuit. For the full story, see Affirm’s Lawsuits page and The Story So Far.)

Members of Affirm will be present at the courthouse in person as a show of solidarity for our LGBTQIA+ siblings at SPU, and we encourage all who are available to join us there on Thursday morning. (If you plan to attend in person, please review this guide on the U.S. Court of Appeals website that outlines behavioral expectations for attending a hearing.)

If you are unable to attend the courthouse in person, you can also join SPU community members in the SPU Library Seminar Room (on the second floor) at 10:00am to watch a livestream of the proceedings. (And if you prefer to watch the livestream on your own, you can do so with this link.)

We invite you to join us if you are able!
